Jung Lee ist eine 1972 in Seoul geborene koreanische Künstlerin, die vor allem für ihre Fotografien von textbasierten Neonlichtinstallationen bekannt ist, die sie direkt in Landschaften platziert. Mit kontrastierenden, sentimentalen Phrasen, denen karge Landschaftsbilder von menschenleeren Ebenen oder kahlen Schneefeldern gegenübergestellt werden, macht sie starke, unterschiedliche emotionale Aussagen. Eine ihrer Inspirationsquellen für viele ihrer Kunstwerke ist Roland Barthes Buch 'Fragmente einer Sprache der Liebe'. Lee entschleunigt die Dinge und analysiert mit Bedacht diesen intensivsten und überwältigendsten aller Zustände, die unerwiderte Sehnsucht – die Sprache der vollkommenen Liebe und den tiefen einsamen Zustand, in den sie den Liebenden stürzt. Sie sammelt Klischeevorstellungen von Liebe und Hass wie ‘How could you do this to me?’ und ‘I still remember’ und gibt ihnen Resonanz in Form kraftvoller Proklamationen.
Jung Lee erhielt ihren M.A. in Fotografie vom Royal College of Art, UK, und ihren B.A. mit Auszeichnung in Fotografie vom Kent Institute of Art & Design, UK. Ausserdem erhielt sie einen B.A. mit Auszeichnung in Massenkommunikation & Journalismus von der Kyung Hee Universität in Seoul, Korea.
