Yoshinori Mizutanis (*1987, Japan) Werke vermischen traditionelle japanische (Strassen-)Fotografie mit westlicher konzeptualer Fotografie.
Mizutani schloss 2012 das Tokyo College of Photography ab. Er hat
zahlreiche renommierte Auszeichnungen gewonnen untern anderem 2013 den
Japan Photo Award, 2014 wurde er zudem als FOAM Talent und unter die
Lens Culture Emerging Talents Top 50 gewählt. Seine Serie Tokyo Parrots
wurde dieses Jahr an den Bieler Fototagen in der Alten Krone in Biel
gezeigt.
Seine Fotografien zeugen von einem angeborenen Verständnis
dafür, wie Formen, Farben, Texturen und Tiefen auf Bildflächen zu
übersetzen sind. Er arbeitet mit einem visuellen Vokabular, welches
durch die Arbeiten vielen Gegenwartsfotografen etabliert wurde. Daher
dienen Mitzutani’s Arbeiten als guter Gradmesser der visuellen
Topographie und fotografischen Stile der jungen Gegenwartsfotografen
Tokios.

Alltag und das Vertraute. Was mir vertraut ist, könnte für den
Betrachter neu sein. Es könnte auch etwas offenbaren, was zuvor
übersehen wurde. Es sind die unterschiedliche Reaktionen und
Interpretationen des Bildes, welche eine Fotografie interessant machen."
