Roger Eberhard

Born 1984 in Zurich, the artist lives and works in both Berlin and Zurich

Roger Eberhard, graduate of the Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara (CA), and winner of the category “free” at the Swiss Photo Award 2009, has developed a body of work that, similarly to Vonplon, quietly deals with a certain sense of loneliness and isolation. Stillness, almost a sensation of motionlessness, as if the world were holding its breath, characterises the works of this artist who never tires to express himself in new and surprising ways. Whether working with colour, black & white, or Polaroids, whether portraying homeless people or seemingly forgotten landscapes, Eberhard manages to instill them with dignity and raison d’etre.

His works suggest a sense of compassion and understanding while at the same time they do not comment, but just quietly let the viewers see for themselves through his eyes. Eberhard’s photography is interestingly diverse; at times lyrically unfocused and overexposed, while at others precise and harshly sharp, portraying abandoned industrial cities throughout the American Midwest as well as isolated farmers in Russian winter. Additionally, he enjoys collaborating with other artist and has over the last years worked with other young talents such as James Nizam or Ester Vonplon.
