Another Love Story shows how an intimate wound can be transformed into a determined act of creation. Initially conceived as a romantic tribute to her former partner, referred to as “X”, the project is profoundly reworked when the artist discovers that this man has been leading a double life with another woman (“She”).
In an attempt to repair this trauma, Karla Hiraldo Voleau brings out the vernacular photographs from the relationship and reproduces them identically. With the help of an actor hired for his resemblance to X, she returns to the places and moments that made up a year of lies. Fiction appears closer to reality, as this time everything is true, she is in control.
Presented in grids reminiscent of a social media feed, the work reflects on the staging of love and the slippery role of photography, a medium of memory that can never capture the truth of emotions. Hiraldo Voleau reinstates the scene of pain without shame, at the heart of the creative process, turning it into a living therapeutic material.
