Yoshinori Mizutani

 –

The solo exhibition by Yoshinori Mizutani curated by Christophe Guye Galerie takes place at the Art Space of Au Premier in Zurich. Yoshinori Mizutani, whose rapid acceptance amongst contemporary photographers in Asia is considered a phenomenon, shows his works in a larger scale for the very first time in Switzerland. Works from his so far most famous series Tokyo Parrots as well as from his newly produced series Moonlight and Yusurika will be on view.

Yoshinori Mizutani graduated from the Tokyo College of Photography in 2012. Meanwhile he has won a number of prestigious awards, including the Japan Photo Award in 2013. He was also selected as Foam Talent and Lens Culture Emerging Talents Top 50 in 2014. His series Tokyo Parrots was on view at the Bienne Festival of Photography this year and his works are part of the collection of the Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts in Japan. Yusurika, his latest publication, was released in September 2015 and is available at the gallery and it's online store, as well as his earlier publications Tokyo Parrots and Colors.

His photographs demonstrate an innate understanding of how forms, colours, textures and depth translate to the pictoral plane. He is working with a visual vocabulary that has been well established by the work of many contemporary photographers. Mizutani’s work serves as a good gauge of the visual tropes and photographic styles that are prevalent among young photographers in Japan.
